Google Confirms Free Turn-by-Turn Directions Coming to iPhone
Free turn-by-turn Google Maps Navigation has already threatened an entire industry of GPS navigation companies whose livelihood depends on selling paid versions of what the search giant is now giving away for free. Currently Google Maps Navigation is available for Android phones only, but in a London press conference Google said it will bring free navigation to the iPhone along with other platforms.
The presser ushered in the arrival of Google Maps Navigation in the UK, but perhaps the juicier part of the news was the official confirmation of free nav in development specifically for the iPhone. More >
More Tools For Local Businesses

Google couldn’t buy Yelp. So its going to kill it by making its local business pages amazing.
The company announced more tools today for local businesses to have a stronger presence on Google and Google Maps.
Google is changing the name of its “Local business center” to the less wordy, but equally uninspired, “Google Places.” (Sounds familiar, no?)
In a blog post, John Hanke, VP Google Maps, says “One out of five searches on Google are related to location.” He says he wants businesses getting found easily on Google.
Googles objective here is to pick up more ad revenue from all these businesses by giving them a place to send people who click on Google search ads.
